This space exists because we fund it together.

We do not take philanthropic grants, corporate sponsors, or government money. Instead, artfarm is 100% member-funded by people who want a free, caring, creative Lexington and chip in to make it real. Direct support is what keeps us autonomous and resilient.

Big puppets, small presses, banners for the march: making art together has always been a way of organizing. artfarm is a proudly independent, censorship-free commons where Lexington does both.

Standard membership is $25/month.

That's 1% of a $30k annual income — and it's what keeps the lights on and the rent paid. If $25 works for you, that's where we need you.

We ask members who are able to contribute 1% of annual income, paid monthly. The 1% model is how the original Houses of Culture funded themselves: member dues, member governance, zero outside money or influence. Worker-run cultural commons, sustained by the people who used them. We're running the same playbook.

Our sign-up software only does fixed amounts, so we've set four tiers:

$10/month (≈ 1% of $12k/yr income)
$25/month (standard) (≈ 1% of $30k/yr income)
$50/month (≈ 1% of $60k/yr income)
$100/month (≈ 1% of $120k/yr income)

($25 is standard. The rest are there if you need them — or want to give more.)

If none of those fit, talk to us. Sliding scale starts at $1/month. $25/month is standard. If that's not workable, we'll make it work.

Your dues directly pay our rent and keep the lights on. They also grow something bigger. You're planting a seed for the relationships and practices needed to build and fight for a hopeful future.

A Commons for Art and Organizing

The peoples’ art and culture need places to live. artfarm is one.

A commons is like a garden tended by a community. Unlike a corporate farm run for-profit by its owners, or a city park tended by paid staff, a commons is something a community can choose to build wherever there is the will, skills, love, and care to tend it. That’s what artfarm is.

Art made by hand, shared freely, and paid for by the people who love it.

Shared governance

artfarm’s workers, general members, and resident organizations & studio artists share governance of this commons. As a member, you'll have a voice in artfarm's future through optional curatorial & education teams, seasonal assemblies, hands-on frolics, and annual visioning & budget gatherings. By funding and governing the space as peers in solidarity, we make the kinds of relevant, timely decisions that keep each other safe, creative, and in community.
